Tested Pi 5 image · direct download

The flashable Raspberry Pi 5 image is live. It uses the full browser renderer in Cage/Chromium and an Ethernet-first, on-device account setup flow.

Install and operate the Pi 5 appliance

01

1. Choose ZIP or raw IMG

The standard ZIP is the 1.00 GiB default download. Raspberry Pi Imager can open it directly, or any normal archive tool can extract the raw image. ZIP SHA-256: 4a279a99df00f2677788b0d2668fcb40eba561af2e6f13522423a0ec92a79c27.

02

2. Verify and flash

Raw IMG SHA-256: 1b6d5a4348fc66e8cbc8de4d318734ff28096b7e9854bda3d6cce1a521eb3756. In Raspberry Pi Imager choose OS → Use custom; in Rufus choose the raw IMG. Select an 8 GB or larger target and confirm carefully because flashing erases it.

03

3. Connect the Pi 5

Insert the flashed storage, connect HDMI and Ethernet, then use a Raspberry Pi 5 power supply suitable for the attached storage. The branded appliance boots into Canvas Relay automatically.

04

4. Sign in on the appliance

Use an existing Canvas Relay email and password, choose the workspace if prompted, then select a published screen. Google-only accounts should first set a Canvas Relay password under Settings → Account & security.

05

Persistent offline playback

The account token, unique device credential, selected screen, and browser cache live in shared persistent storage, so normal reboots and slot changes retain setup and last-known-good playback.

06

Recovery and fleet controls

The local agent and kiosk are supervised by systemd, the Pi hardware watchdog covers a wedged OS, and Fleet Health can request diagnostics, actual screenshots, reload, cache clear, and clean reboot.

Download the Canvas Relay Raspberry Pi 5 image

Choose the standard single-image ZIP or the 5.81 GiB raw IMG. Both contain the same 64-bit Debian Trixie A/B appliance image for Raspberry Pi 5.

Questions, answered

01Which Raspberry Pi does this image support?+

This release targets Raspberry Pi 5 with a 64-bit Debian Trixie A/B appliance layout. Do not assume Raspberry Pi 4 or earlier boards are supported by this image; those need separately built and tested targets.

02Which Pi download should I use?+

Use the standard ZIP for the smaller, familiar download; Raspberry Pi Imager can open the ZIP directly, or you can extract it to get the raw image. Use the raw .img download when Rufus or another flashing tool expects an uncompressed disk image.

03How do I connect the Pi to my Canvas Relay account?+

Boot the Pi with HDMI and Ethernet connected. On first use, sign in on the Pi with an existing Canvas Relay email and password, then choose a published screen. This appliance setup does not use the dashboard pairing-code form.

04Can Raspberry Pi Imager configure Wi-Fi for this image?+

Not in this A/B release. Its immutable layout does not claim Raspberry Pi Imager cloud-init customization support. Use Ethernet for first boot and deployment unless you have separately validated network provisioning for your hardware.

Flash the image, then choose a published screen.

Prepare an existing Canvas Relay account and published board, boot the Pi 5 on Ethernet, and finish setup directly on the appliance.
