Install and connect Google TV / Android TV

Download the signed Canvas Relay TV receiver, sideload it safely, pair its code, and understand direct-beta updates and recovery.

Canvas Relay Google TV 0.1.1 is available as a signed direct-download beta. The TV package is app.canvasrelay.tv; the app.canvasrelay.companion phone/tablet APK is a different product and is not a TV receiver.

Download and sideload the TV APK

  1. Download /downloads/canvas-relay-google-tv.apk from canvasrelay.app on a computer or phone, then transfer it to the TV by USB or a trusted file-transfer app; a capable TV browser or downloader may also open it directly.
  2. On Google TV, open Settings → Apps → Security & Restrictions or Special app access → Install unknown apps and allow only the app opening the APK.
  3. Install Canvas Relay, then turn off Install unknown apps for that source again.
  4. Developer mode is not required for this file-based method. Enable Developer options and USB/network debugging only if you deliberately install with ADB, then disable debugging afterward.

Pair and operate the receiver

  1. Open Canvas Relay on the TV and read its six-digit code.
  2. In Screens → Add screen, choose Android TV / Google TV, enter the code, name the screen, and assign a published board.
  3. Wait for Connected → Downloading board → Playing. Later launches retain the pairing, selected board, and cached release.
  4. Use Back during playback to resume, switch screens, or forget and re-pair. Use Menu/Info for diagnostics.

Direct-beta updates

When Canvas Relay announces a newer direct APK, download it from the same official page and install it over the current app. Android verifies the direct-distribution signing identity. Do not uninstall first unless support instructs you to, because uninstalling clears local pairing and cache state.
